The pastoral is a form of theatre, heir to the "mysteries" of the Middle Ages which were played throughout Europe, mainly on the forecourt of the church.
This show where there are songs, dances and narration is performed in Basque. Each year, a village of Soule (in the Basque Country) mobilizes to organize it.
This year, the village of Ordiarp played the "Sibastarrak" pastoral, retracing the story of Madeleine and Jean De Jaureguiberry.

NEWS: As part of the Spring of Poets, poetry and photography evening in the presence of Ixaro Borda and Séverine Dabadie
Reading and discussion with Itxaro Borda & Séverine Dabadie on their book "Poema bat da herri hau / This country is a poem" published in bilingual by Elkar. Itxaro Borda will read in Basque and in French some of his poems inspired by the photos of the artist photographer Séverine Dabadie.
Séverine Dababie will project her photographs during the reading. Then there will be readings and debates before ending with a writing workshop for Haïkus, a short poem born in Japan four centuries ago. Participants will have the opportunity to write a haiku in French or Basque and then read it in front of the public.

Pastoral Simone Veil (Musculdy 2022) elaboration
The Simone Veil pastoral will be played in Musculdy on July 24 and 31 and August 6. 95 actors from the village of Musculdy (130 inhabitants). Written by Battitte Berrogain and directed by the errejent Maite Davant, the choirs under the direction of Sophie Landaburru. La pastorale souletine is an outdoor theater piece entirely in the Basque language and more particularly in souletin. Heir to medieval theatres, it was staged by l'errejent, director and guarantor of tradition, and performed by dancers and actors from the same village. The central theme of the pastoral is always the struggle between good and evil, between two groups represented in blue and red. This traditional and contemporary form of theater at the same time moves the crowds of the Basque Country and is considered a major event by the Basque cultural community. At present, it is one of the essential cultural characteristics of Soule. A pastoral is organized each year by a different Souletin village. Rehearsals last from six months to a year. Performances last around 3 hours and usually take place on the last Sunday in July and the first Sunday in August. This practice has been listed in the Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage in France since 2012.

More than 40 cultural actors gathered on April 23 in Ustaritz to participate in the synthesis of the Elkartuz workshops initiated in October 2021 by the ICB in order to establish a diagnosis of Basque culture. This restitution took place in the presence of representatives of all the cultural fields studied during the workshops (theatre, literature, dance & dance music, bertsularism, contemporary music, choral singing, visual arts and cinema). The opportunity to draw up a panorama of aspirations but also of concrete projects that the Basque Cultural Institute will be able to support in the months to come.

In October 2021, Blue Week celebrated its 70th anniversary. And the City of Ciboure, its first participation in this event that works to highlight the place of seniors in the life of the city.
We wanted to share diversity, intergenerational mix, culture, sport and solidarity with everyone for this first edition.
Therefore, the idea of an exhibition in honor of Cibourians, fishermen, workers, artists or peasants and activists, has sprouted in our minds. And the names, the faces of 23 Cibouriennes and Cibouriens appeared as a matter of course, to testify to the Ciboure of yesterday and today.

Our footsteps in their footsteps is the title we wanted to give to this exhibition because it is emblematic of the approach implemented as part of the City of Ciboure's first participation in the Blue Week dedicated to Seniors. . The Culture and Community Life Service and the City's Animation Service as well as the Social Action Center and the Iduski Ederra Foyer enthusiastically joined this project. Everyone will have noticed the youth of the City Council and it is why this desire to celebrate the Ancients is all the more notable.
For me who am between two waters, between two ages, this project was important because in my work, the notion of intangible heritage, of transmission, of memory constitutes a compass. Born in Biarritz and arrived in Ciboure at the age of 4, I have always had the feeling that this city, this bay, this horizon had shaped me in the sandstone of the tides, storms and rugged terrain. This offshore horizon, beyond the dikes, was filled with mysteries and adventures and called to me. But it is in the hollow of this protective bay, protected by the silhouette of the fort that we Cibourians like to find ourselves. I am convinced that as a port, Ciboure and Zokoa have shaped our characters, our dreams and our aspirations. There is a fund common to all Cibourians which has been shaped by geography but also by history and this is what we wanted to underline through these meetings.
This exhibition was desired, supported and accompanied by the Town Hall through the follow-up of Emilie Dutoya, Sabrina Berrouet, Sandrine Zamora, Myriam Hammami and Carine Lalun. Everyone's wish was of course to honor and highlight Cibourians, but beyond this desire, it was important that they be representative of all Cibourians. We had to limit ourselves in the number of participants and many are those who deserved to appear. This panel, this kaleidoscope of personalities, however different they may be, is the story of Ciboure. These faces, these journeys, tell us the history of our city in its complexity, in its evolution.
They tell us about a time when Ciboure was a town of fishermen, of canneries that numbers of workers sometimes joined in the dark night, wearing hoofs, walking the towpaths to reach the factory at the call of the siren who tore the silence. They tell us about the Ciboure of the workers, of a time which saw the port filled with boats which each winter joined the African coasts, of living docks where tuna and sardines were unloaded in a joyful hubbub. They tell us about Ciboure who knew how to welcome those who, driven out by the Franco dictatorship, crossed the Bidasoa to live in peace with us. They talk to us about the link with Brittany, the solidarity of fishermen, the Baltsan who shaped the Cibourian soul, the necessary solidarity, a time without television where people crossed paths, recognized each other, talked to each other during evenings. entire on the banks of the Nivelle or the port of Zokoa. They tell us about Ciboure which had a number of farms, craftsmen of all kinds. They tell us about the simple people who made up the population of Ciboure. They also tell us about the beauty, artistry and joy of creation that shone far beyond the city's borders. They tell us about this war which shook their youth, deprived them of freedom and basic goods. They tell us of the courage they had to face it and of those who stood up for the honor of an entire country, modestly endorsing an extraordinary destiny. They tell us about the battles that punctuated their lives and the stones they added to the construction of our world.
You are the Cibourians in their richness and their differences. You are the representatives of the values that the Cibourians hold dear. You have known without nostalgia or bitterness to show us the way forward. And to me, personally, you offered your kindness, your warm welcome and your faces that told me about the Ciboure that flows through our veins and irrigates our aspirations and I am deeply grateful to you.
Sometimes, we no longer recognize Ciboure, are afraid that his particularities will be diluted. We should be the ones who reclaim our history, our values, our culture, our language. You were there to remind us of that. Milesker handi beats!
You are not our past but on the contrary our future because you illuminate our path and, rich in your experience, you guide our steps.

A camera slung over the shoulder and the crashing waves in the background ... Although passionate about India, Séverine Dabadie remains viscerally attached to the Basque Country, where she lives and works. She delivers its unfathomable soul, far from the clichés usually taken, while preserving the mystery. In an ethnographic and sociological approach, she has always been interested in Basque cultural heritage and in subjects that seem to her to be weakened by the onslaught of modernity.
Based on the bilingual book published by Elkar in collaboration with Itxaro Borda, still available in bookstores and online.
From July 4 to November 7, 2020, the CEP (Heritage Education Center) OSPITALEA in Irissarry (64) will host its new summer exhibition: "Laxoa, at the origins of Basque pelota", presenting the photographs of Séverine DABADIE around this forgotten practice of pelota. Many activities around this exhibition will be offered for young and old.

The jury for the "Zigor" literary prize awarded by our colleagues from the weekly "La Semaine du Pays Basque":
In the "Author" category (Philippe Salquain Prize), Jacques Ballarin (journalist at Sud Ouest) won the votes for his book "Pays Basque, un terroir, des hommes" by Ducasse editions.
Elkar editions are awarded in the "Publisher" category for the publication of the collective work for the memory of the Beyris camp "Polo Beyris, a forgotten camp in Bayonne 1939-1947".
In the "Photographer" category, Séverine Dabadie is awarded for "Poema bat da herri hau" (this country is a poem) by Elkar editions

At the beginning of September, Patrice Tesseire, Editor-in-Chief Mountain of Pyrenees Magazine devoted a very nice chronicle on our book "Euskal artzainak - Basque Shepherds". This mountain man, and nevertheless a journalist, knows the pastoral milieu well and his writings are always very wise.
Thanks to him for this boost that brings to light our book that has touched the hearts of the inhabitants of the Basque Country and more particularly that of shepherds and peasants.

This choice of G7 organizers highlights the Basque pelota in some of these multiple variations.
The 22 photographs which compose the exhibition will be showed in the big hall of the Press Center at the Halle Iraty, which will welcome 3,500 journalists from all around the world to cover the G7 in Biarritz.

La 36ème édition du Biltzar des Ecrivains aura lieu les 22 et 23 avril 2019 à Sare. Comme à l'accoutumée, le lundi de Pâques sera dédié au grand public avec les traditionnelles présentations d'ouvrages et les dédicaces d'auteurs. Le lendemain, une journée professionnelle sur le thème de la littérature en langue basque sera également organisée. L'Institut culturel basque est partenaire.
La prochaine édition du Biltzar des Ecrivains de Sare se déroulera sur deux jours.
En plus de la journée du lundi ouverte au public, Sarako Biltzarra, le réseau Bilketa, Biblio64 et l'Institut culturel basque organisent une journée sur le thème de la littérature en langue basque dédiée aux éditeurs, libraires, bibliothécaires, auteurs, enseignants ou étudiants.

Aurtengo Idazleen Biltzarra bi egunez iraganen da beraz. Bazko astelehena eta ohiko liburu aurkezpen eta mintzaldiez gain, asteartean profesionalei zuzendu egitarau bat apailatu dute Sarako Biltzarrak, Bilketa sareak, Biblio64-k eta Euskal kultur erakundeak.

Présentation de l’exposition et du livre (édité chez Elkar) en présence des deux artistes. Dans le cadre du Printemps des poètes et de la Korrika kulturala.

Auteur d’articles, romans et poèmes, une des fondatrices de la Revue Maiatz et Prix Euskadi de littérature pour son livre 100 % Basque.

Argazkilari profesionala, sei liburu eta hainbat erakusketan egilea, argazkigintza partekatzeko abentura gisa hartzen du, barne bidaia, etengabeko balore neurketa, munduari eta populuei idekitzea.
Photographe professionnelle, auteur de six livres de photographie et de nombreuses expositions, Séverine Dabadie aborde son travail avec humanisme et curiosité, elle considère la photographie comme une aventure à partager, un voyage intérieur, une quête personnelle, une remise à niveau des valeurs, une ouverture au monde et aux peuples.

I will say someday your latent births ... "
Arthur Rimbaud in "Voyelles"
These words of Arthur Rimbaud are famous, they open his poem "Vowels". Journey on a path of colors and letters, this fulguracy of the giant Ardennes offers here an unexpected prospect to travel the Basque Country. This is the one chosen by the photographer Séverine Dabadie to invite to a rimbaldian walk in the heart of the Basque Country.
The writer Itxaro Borda put on her "soles of wind" to follow her along this initiatory journey, following a poetic wandering.
Both want to embark the reader in the heart of this book and the Basque Country as one would enter a symbolist poem, small touches. Leaving room for imagination, vowels and colors marry into a "long disturbance of all the senses" to reach an intimate, even intimate vision, a way of being "seeing" and touching the essential. Black, white, red, green and blue are the vowels of Rimbaud. Séverine Dabadie's photographs follow these colors in their chromatic language and the purity of Itxaro Borda's texts are like the "drunken boat", letting us discover the Basque Country and its landscapes through words.

The photographer Séverine Dabadie proposes to accompany you through films and slideshow aboard the Airosa tuna boat based in the port of St Jean-de-Luz, in the mountains and Basque Piedmont near the Basque shepherds as she will train you on the the banks of the Ganges, in India, at Benares.
Here as there, everything is a question of gaze. These two seemingly different worlds are changing. Modern times are shaking up traditions and shattering our landmarks.
The work of Séverine Dabadie, a professional photographer and author of 5 books, takes a benevolent and optimistic view of these traditions that persist and struggle to remain the foundation on which the future will be based.
By associating these three themes so different, it seeks to highlight the traces of a past still alive. Is not one of the photographer's roles to account for transitions, lifestyles, beauty and to bear witness of the world to the world?
Being from here or from there, we are no less human. How to focus his attention on the other without knowing his home, his land and his customs? More than an approach of India or the Basque Country, it is an invitation to sharpen its gaze, to open up to the world without neglecting its own roots.

Dans le cadre d'"Iraty dévoile ses merveilles" :
- de 10H à 16H, Séverine Dabadie présentera son dernier livre publié chez Elkar et projetera son film sur la vie des bergers au pays Basque à 17h30 au Châlet de Cize à Iraty. La projection sera suivie d'un débat avec le public.
Avec les chargés de mission du CPIE Pays basque.
Venez découvrir Iraty sous tous ses aspects. Lors d'une journée au plateau de Cize, vous serez amenés à rencontrer les différents acteurs qui vivent et entretiennent ce territoire. Bergers producteurs, associations de protection de l'environnement, chasseurs, pêcheurs, randonneurs..., tous vous parleront de leur métier ou de leur passion. Venez participer à des ateliers pour petits et grands et échanger avec les multiples habitants de nos montagnes.
L’après midi, un grand jeu de piste ludique et instructif permettra aux familles de tout savoir sur Iraty. Munis d'une carte truffée d'indices, vous devrez résoudre des énigmes le long d'un sentier pédagogique, répondre à des devinettes, trouver des témoins, reconstituer un puzzle, élucider toutes sortes de problèmes amusants. A l'issue du jeu, un goûter musical à base de produits locaux sera offert aux participants.
Et toute la journée, à partir de 10 h : marché des producteurs locaux.
Possibilité de se restaurer au châlet d'Iraty-Cize.

Pour la 9e édition des Papillons, plus de 200 toiles géantes en provenance du monde entier vont se poser dans les rues de Carpentras et ses environs.

Pour la deuxième année, les Papillons sont aussi des photos ! Quarante photographies géantes sont exposées dans dix communes de la CoVe, en même temps que les Papillons Peinture dont celle de Séverine DABADIE dans le village de La Roque-sur-Pernes. Il s'agit de la n°18 ci-dessous.
A 11 km de de Carpentras dans le Vaucluse, perché sur un roc et entouré d'une nature magnifique, le petit village de La Roque sur Pernes vous permettra d'apprécier pleinement la qualité des paysages de la région car le village offre de nombreux points de vues sur les somptueux Monts de Vaucluse.

More than 30 years after the publication of the reference of Jacques Blot, Artzainak Severine Dabadie (photographer and writer) and Christiane Etchezaharreta (author) tried to establish a state of the Basque pastoral scene. For several months, they surveyed the Basque mountains Ala meet many shepherds from all backgrounds, of all ages, from all backgrounds, men, women, old, young, shepherds landless, herders from family shepherds, pastoral workers are not from the Basque Country and monitoring herds voluble Irati, men pursuing the profession by tradition and even a shepherd anthropologist.

There is no "one" pastoralism but "of" pastoralismes. This world is infinitely rich. It forces us tantàt àtourner our gaze to the future, tantàt the past. Basque pastoralism is more like the image of Epinal that the postcards would still impose. This is a changing world sailing between modernity and tradition. Times have changed, leading to pastoralism in its wake. However, good news! If the task is hard sometimes, herders have adapted. They used this ancient tradition to enter the twenty-first century with the fierce desire to perpetuate these skills, these lifestyles, the deep desire to offer consumers the best products and especially to experience the mountains.

Séverine Dabadie will be at the "Stand ELKAR" during the 3 days. She will present her book "Airosa - Ecume de mer / Itsas Aparra" with others authors of the publishing house Elkar.
Elkar will stand at the Book Fair - Escale littéraire.
Aware of the wealth of exceptional heritage which is the port of Bayonne, the City and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bayonne Basque Country took the initiative to organize a major event around the harbor and make a biennial appointment of the summer season: "The Marines Stops", both highlight the label City of art and history and action of the Port lighthouse integration policy City / ICC.
With nearly 4,000 visitors in 2012, the success of the first edition dedicated to "Writers Navy" has to discover or rediscover this remarkable port history. Stopovers Marine dock in Bayonne in 2014 from 27 to 29 June on the dock Edmond-Foy, downstream of Henri Grenet bridge, with a diverse program of activities to develop again the port and its history of yesterday and today 'hui.
Three beautiful old sailing: Le Marité, l'Etoile de France and Le Mutin will be open free to visitors during their stopover Bayonne. In harbor, visitors can enjoy many cultural events: a book fair, heritage exhibitions, guided tours of the modern port, video artists projected containers contemporaries, the outdoor cinema and a unique creation around an urban ministry dedicated to the history forges de l'Adour complement this beautiful marine program of the first day of summer.
Many partners have joined this party port: the port owner Aquitaine Region, the General Council of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Basque Coast Agglomeration-Adour, Naval Base de l'Adour, booksellers, water associations, cultural facilities and the media.

Zatozte Itsasargira edo “To The Lighthouse” liburudendara, Severine Dabadieren argazki erakusketa aurkeztuko dugu ekainaren 14 etatik uztailaren 13 arte.
Severine went onboard "Airosa", the last of the traditional tuna fishing boats still in service in St Jean de Luz.
Built 60 years ago in Socoa, "Airosa" is the last of a long line of majestic boats that have played such an important role in the life of St Jean and Ciboure. Others being Boga-Boga, Begnat, Sainte Thérèse, Marinela, Euskal Herria,..
Severine’s work is a moving tribute to local history and culture.
She we will be exhibiting some of these stunning photos in the bookshop from Sat 14 June to Sun 13 July 2014.

Rendez-vous littéraire s’intégrant parfaitement à la vie culturelle de La Bastide Clairence, la « Fête du livre » déroulera ses pages le dimanche 8 juin de 10h à 18h au cœur du village médiéval, salle Inexa de Gaxen.
Editeurs, libraires, auteurs, calligraphe seront présents. Toutes les formes de lecture seront mises en avant et il y en aura pour tous les goûts : romans, BD, littérature jeunesse, essais… Ce sera l’occasion pour les visiteurs de discuter « littérature » avec les auteurs présents ainsi qu’avec les éditeurs, les libraires et les autres professionnels du livre.
La fête du livre de La Bastide Clairence a pour but de développer la promotion de la culture littéraire en zone rurale et de créer la rencontre entre les lecteurs et le monde du livre. Pour ce faire elle a la chance d’œuvrer dans l’un des Plus Beaux Villages de France qui a fêté il y a peu ses 700 ans. Au sein de cette bastide du 12ème siècle, vous trouverez aussi les artisans d’art dont vous pourrez visiter les ateliers.
La Bastide Clairence se situe à 20mn de Bayonne par l’autoroute (partie gratuite) A64 et à 45 mn de Pau.

Séverine Dabadie y présentera son travail et ses publications.
Une trentaine d'artistes, vous accueilleront dans ce joli cadre des bords de Nive. Situé face aux halles, ce Vide-Atelier vous permettra d’accéder à des créations originales et variées à prix abordables... Une occasion plaisante d'échanges avec des peintres, sculpteurs, céramistes ou photographes.
Des ateliers récréatifs, ouverts aux enfants et aux adolescents, offriront une initiation aux portrait imaginaires (craies et collages), aux graffs (magnets et calligraphie) et à la sculpture... Un jeu en lien avec le « Parcours d'Artistes », vous sera proposé dans les divers lieux d'expositions du petit Bayonne.
PS : Si le climat ne nous était pas favorable, la date de la manifestation sera reportée au samedi 31 mai (journées du chocolat).

Découvrir, l'espace de quelques heures, la vie des marins basques et celle du port de Saint-Jean-de-Luz-Ciboure en particulier ; c'est ce que propose l'exposition multimédia de l'Institut culturel basque "Itsasturiak , les gens de la mer" produite en partenariat avec le Conseil général des Pyrénées-atlantiques.
En trois langues - basque, français et espagnol - elle pose un regard nouveau sur ce monde à part, son histoire et les défis auquel il doit faire face.
L'exposition "Itsasturiak, les gens de la mer" s'appuie d'abord sur les témoignages et les histoires racontés par celles et ceux qui ont vécu l'évolution du port et la pêche (des témoignages recueillis en 2010 par l'Institut culturel basque dans le cadre de son programme de collecte de la mémoire orale en Pays Basque "Eleketa" (sous maîtrise d'ouvrage du Conseil général des Pyrénées-Atlantiques). Elle est aussi enrichie de photos d'archives confiées par les témoins et des documentaires vidéos réalisés sur le port et consultables sur des bornes multimédias.
Des portraits de marins en noir et blanc réalisés par le photographe Sébastien Husté ponctuent aussi le parcours de visite.
Par ailleurs les témoignages présentés au sein de l'exposition sont aussi consultables en ligne sur le portail www.eke.org.

Back in the Basque Country, Séverine Dabadie present his work at the 7th edition of the festival book The BastideClairence (Bastida) Sunday, May 19, 2013 on the village square, one of the finest in the region.
The Book Fair The BastideClairence aims to develop the promotion of literary culture in rural areas for to propose an event that combines the key players in the village and helps to strengthen the efforts to make La Bastide Clairence, ranked among Most Beautiful Villages of France, a land of choice for Art and Culture.
It is organized by the Municipal Library "Liber and litterae."
Since its launch, I participate in the project of the Association Loi 1901 "Photographes pour la vie" which was created in January 2012. Sales of prints numbered and signed by the authors to benefit only to the League against Cancer.
All profits from these sales are donated to the League against Cancer.
An artistic platform to serve the fight against cancer. "Photographes pour la vie", this is the initiative launched by the two photographers: Joëlle Verbrugge and André Lamerant. The principle allow the public to acquire a photographic work then the profits will benefit to the League against cancer.
A project carried out with the support of several structures and those who offer their time and expertise.
The website presents a platform, where the curious can go to discover the works of photographers and thus acquire a photograph which was donated by photographers.

The Kriti Gallery of Banaras is actually presenting the beautiful work of Séverine Dabadie (French photographer) with the city though the exibition « Reflections ». These works are in edition of 25 and one edition will be permanent collection of the Banaras Photomuseum housed at the Kriti Gallery. The exibition is untill 15th November 2012. Open tuesday to saturday 11 am to 6 pm.
Severine Dabadie is present at the gallery evening from 4 to 6 pm to talk to the visitors for the duration of the exhibition.
« In my wildest dreams, before walking in the streets of Kashi, I would never have imagined a place so beautiful and so strong. Kashi is the city of my dreams. As a photographer it was also a revelation in my life in the same way as when I saw the first image appearing bathed in the red light of the darkroom. It was an artistic revelation but also a human revelation.
My life is closely linked to this magical place. Every year for the last 9 years, my steps bring me back to the banks of the Ganges River, to my Indian friends, to my goldmine. Every day I try to unravel a little more the mystery surrounding the city. I know that one life will not be enough. So I dig my furrow hoping to go beyond appearances, beyond mere representation. This is also why a vision of reality through its reflection always seems to me more real, strangely more true. This poetic and phantasmagoric game, these reflections always lead me to new reflections.
